Feb 14, 2010, Grafted Tomato Varieties

Two tomato varieties growing on one plant - now wouldn't that be great!

When I received my seed catalogue from Dobies, a UK seed company, that's exactly what they had introduced. The two tomato varieties had been grafted onto a specially selected rootstock. By choosing the right rootstock the growing characteristics of the tomato plant and tomato fruit formation can be determined by the grower - for example: a more vigorous tomato plant for earlier planting, more resistant to diseases like tomato blight etc.

Read what Dobies has to say about their product and then go and give them a try - I`ve ordered mine and can't wait to give them a trial along side some conventionally grown tomato varieties. If you order now you'll be one of the first to grow them!

"We've grafted two delicious tomato varieties onto one plant, so, for the first time ever, you can pick a bountiful crop of two mouth-watering varieties from just one plant! Both have been selected for their quality and taste and will perform well in a sunny spot outside or in a greenhouse.

And not only do you get bigger crops from less space but, because they've been grafted for extra vigour, they'll be ready to pick earlier too!

Our trials have shown that these tomato varieties of grafted plants are incredibily healthy and give rise to larger strong growing plants giving bumper yields. They'll perform well outside, but are particularly recommended for greenhouse growing, where they'll fulful their full potential, and allow you to get plants off to an early start in spring without paying a fortune on heating your greenhouse! And they'll continue cropping longer in autumn too."
